Of the Suzuki GSX-Rs, the rarest of all the limited editions is the Suzuki GSX-R SP. Released in 1994 as a homologation special, with only 200 released to the public, it is dipped in magnesium parts, 40mm carburetors, 6-piston brakes, adjustable rear shock and fork and is 10kg lighter than its contemporary Gixxer for that year.

The SP is now a race-ready street machine once again, as her makers intended.”

This bike spent its early years on the rainy streets of Belgium and finally wound up here in merry ol’ Whistler. Unfortunately the damp years in Belgium showed, with much galvanic corrosion, and rust- and weather-damaged paint. As an indication of just how bad the corrosion was, when we went to pick it up—newly out of its shipping crate—we had to muscle and lift it all the way down the street to our shop as the steering head bearing was completely rusted in place.

We spent some time on this battered beast: repairing scarred swingarms, re-anodizing parts, polishing paint and stainless steel, and completely overhauling the engine, carbs, wheels, shock and fork. The SP is now a race-ready street machine once again, as her makers intended. This bike is back and it wants you out of its fast lane!
